The Magic Sleepsuit is an innovative baby product that provides babies with a cozy, calming, and safe sleep environment. The Magic Sleepsuit is designed for babies who have become too big for swaddling, yet still need that warmth and contained feeling to aide in their sleep.

The Magic Sleepsuit is designed to be introduced at approximately three months of age when most babies are growing out of swaddling, transitioning into larger more spacious cribs from smaller sleep environments (cradles, bassinets, etc.), and able to sleep for longer stretches without parental intervention (holding, nursing, rocking, etc.). The Magic Sleepsuit provides babies with the comfort they need by muffling those twitches and startle-type movements that can wake them prematurely, and by keeping them cozy and secure making it easier to go to sleep on their own or fall back asleep if woken. The suit is designed to aide the baby's sleep patterns, but also gives the parents and/or caregivers peace of mind that their baby is getting adequate rest necessary for appropriate growth and development.  It is recommended that babies transition out of the Magic Sleepsuit by approximately 9 months of age, the age when babies are sitting, crawling and starting to pull to standing independently. This is also an age when good sleep patterns should be established.

The Magic Sleepsuit is designed to be used for back sleeping, the preferred position for sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS. The Magic Sleepsuit provides adequate warmth and prevents the need for blankets and other loose bedding, which is consistent with many recommendations to prevent SIDS. During the time when babies begin
to roll over, but should still remain on their back for sleep, the Magic Sleepsuit helps keep them in the back sleeping position longer.

As the baby develops, the Magic Sleepsuit also becomes a comfort item that the baby associates with sleep. This can be a benefit when traveling because a pack-n-play and/or porta-crib can be a strange environment, yet the Magic Sleepsuit is familiar. The Magic Sleepsuit can also be used in the car seat to make transitioning a sleeping baby from the car to the crib a much smoother process.

The concept of the Magic Sleepsuit started soon after the birth of my first son. He was getting too big for swaddling and would kick and squirm out of the blanket, leaving a loose blanket in the crib with him, which I knew was dangerous. I also tried a sleep sack, which helped to keep him warm, but did not provide the secure, contained feeling he needed to help him go to sleep on his own. Thus, I created the initial prototype that is now the Magic Sleepsuit. It worked immediately and was extremely effective. My husband and I referred to the suit as "magic" because the effect it had was amazing, and magic to us!

With my background as a pediatric physical therapist I knew, physiologically, that what I created made sense. As a mom, I knew that it helped my baby sleep better and longer and also provided me with the rest I needed.

When the Magic Sleepsuit worked with my second baby, I was convinced that my concept had merit. I then knew that I wanted to share this product with other parents and caregivers who were having problems with their baby's sleep. When I continued to hear the success stories -- and the requests for the product from friends grew -- I decided that I wanted to formally share this product with other parents and caregivers.

Inventor: Maureen Howard

I am first and foremost a mom, which I think gives me particular insight and ability to run my business. I love my children and spending time with them and my husband. My family has grown to include four children with my youngest born June 2009.

I have a very loving mother and father who instilled in me great core values that I only hope that I can duplicate with my children. I think of these values every day in raising my children and running my business. I treat my vendors, suppliers, and customers with kindness and respect. The passion that drives me in life to help others also drives me in my business, so that I can help babies and families better enjoy the early months of a baby's life. If a baby is not sleeping well, it really puts stress on the family. I hope that my product helps these families and makes their lives better.

I knew at a very young age that I wanted to work in the medical profession and more specifically with children. After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Biology from the University of Delaware, I pursued a Master of Physical Therapy degree from Temple University. I started work at the world renowned Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) as a pediatric physical therapist. I then worked independently as a physical therapist with pre-school and school aged children. After the birth of my second child I left my job to be a stay at home mom, and worked on developing this business.

My education and experience as a physical therapist gave me the tools I needed to create the concept behind the Magic Sleepsuit. With an understanding of human physiology, I know that babies calm to certain types of proprioceptive input such as gentle weight and secure positioning. This explains why babies often sleep well in a car seat or stroller and when being held closely. I also know that babies have immature sensory systems and have certain reflexes (twitches) that can startle and wake them prematurely. By muffling these reflexes and providing this input, babies are calmed and soothed. By helping the babies with these comfort needs and keeping them at a warm and constant temperature, babies sleep better and longer

My strong belief in the Magic Sleepsuit has driven me to want to share this product with other parents and caregivers, and has lead me to found the Baby Merlin Company to launch its signature product, the Magic Sleepsuit.

The Baby Merlin Company is family owned and operated, and takes great care to provide the best materials and best quality products possible.  The Magic Sleepsuit has been put through comprehensive safety testing by Bureau Veritas Group, an international testing agency.  The final product was also hand inspected for compliance with the Company’s quality and safety standards by KRT Audit Corporation, an international factory audit company.

One of my good friends was one of the early success stories with her baby going from a really bad sleeper to a great sleeper almost overnight when she was placed in the Magic Sleepsuit.  Now, years later, her daughter still sleeps with the Magic Sleepsuit!  My friend insists that her daughters Magic Sleepsuit is her "security blanket" and it will travel with her daughter to college, where her roommate will also still be sleeping with her own Magic Sleepsuit!

Also, the Magic Sleepsuit was gifted to more than 75 celebrity moms and dads in Hollywood at a Pre-Golden Globe Awards Gift Giving Suite called the Boom Boom Room.

The Magic Sleepsuit IS magic! My youngest son had a difficult time staying asleep as an infant due to constant startling. This helped him feel cozy and secure and minimized his startling so that he could actually get the sleep he desperately needed. more Every new mom and baby needs to give it a try!

My son LOVES his sleepsuit! He sleeps/naps with it every day...his naps are over an hour long. Yesterday I had to wash it during naptime and his nap was 35 minutes! I will be sad when he outgrows it!

We love the Magic Sleepsuit! Our now 10 month old enjoyed about 8 months of great sleep and she has been the happiest, well rested baby. We recently stopped using the Magic Sleepsuit as she was starting to get too big and we thought she was ready tomore transition out. We are amazed at how easy she transitioned and she continues sleeping great for her naps and at nighttime.

The patent pending SmartZip™ Sleeper uses a two way zipper, that means, a zipper pull at the neckline and a zipper pull at the ankle. No other baby sleeper on the market has this added convenience. The two way zipper is the same idea as the snap baby sleeper. The snap baby sleeper allows you to open only as far as you need it from the bottom to access and change a diaper. By using an additional zipper pull at the bottom of the SmartZip™ Sleeper, you can unzip as far as you need to, without having to fumble with realigning snaps. The result is a simpler, quicker, easier diaper change.

The SmartZip™ Sleeper is 100% interlock cotton instead of ribbed. Still flexible, but holds it's shape better. No more baggy knees or elbows.

The SmartZip™ Sleeper is a slightly heavier cotton, giving it added softness, comfort and durability. Its quality keeps it from fading and shrinking.

The SmartZip™ Sleeper doesn't look like a sleeper. It is trendy enough to keep your little one in while running those morning errands. It's a baby sleeper and baby outfit in one.

The SmartZip™ Sleeper is one of a kind. I've been told, once you use it, you will wish you bought it sooner

The inspiration for the SmartZip™ Sleeper came after I awoke one night to the insistent and upset screams of my baby boy. Over the baby monitor I heard the telltale sounds of frustration coming from my husband as he gallantly tried to make the change in the dark. The lights were off to keep the baby from having a real tantrum and confuse a midnight diaper change with playtime, but that made it so much harder to match up the snaps on his traditional sleeper. I also had problems with the one way zipper sleepers. My baby boy liked a bottle when I changed him. When I would unzip from the top, I'd inevitably knock the bottle from his mouth trying to unsnap the zipper cover and unzip the sleeper. The next day I began my search for the perfect sleeper, but was soon disappointed. I realized that to save myself and my husband from hectic midnight diaper changes, I''d have to become a mompreneur and solve the problem myself.

Inventor: Cindi Wise

I had a career as an architect before my children. I was fortunate and overjoyed to be able to stay at home to raise them. I never missed the corporate world, but my creative juices didn''t stop flowing. I never had intentions or dreams of starting my own business. I was content doing some freelance or outsource work for area firms just to keep me up to date in my career incase I ever decided to go back. I had no experience in children''s clothing besides dressing my kids in them! Nor was I a seamstress. The creative process for clothing was the same as for buildings, but the industry was all new. It took over two years of research in fashion, marketing, website development and social media, not to mention countless sample reviews and model fittings. I even drafted my own patent through LegalZoom.com to save money. Having a creative project to work on, while being able to watch my children grow has been a most enjoyable combination. I have many more innovative ideas in the wings and hope that all my hard work will create a brand with longevity; one that continues to make parents lives easier. It would be even better if my son or his big sister inherits the ambition to create and invent, so the company will continue to grow long after I''m gone. My only sadness, is that my son is now three and too big to wear my invention!

One comment I''d like to make is that parents of some plumper babies have given feedback saying they wish the sleeper could be roomier. I wish it would be the perfect fit for all babies, but because the SmartZip Sleeper is cotton and not flame retardant, Consumer Product Regulations require it to be snug fitting. I know that all products have room for improvement, I hope that by being on your site, additional feedback will help to make the SmartZip Sleeper as good as it can be!

My baby boy with significant, must-squeeze cheeks (and amazing thighs and belly to match!) wore this adorable sleeper at nine months old. Appreciated the unique zipper design, comfy fabric, and loved the chocolate/blue color combo on him. Am going to buymore a pink sleeper for his new little cousin.
