Hourglass Coffee was started in 2004 in Portland Oregon by Bob Neace and Todd Maas. The original idea goes back over 4 decades to Bob’s Grandfather who made the best coffee in town. His secret... cold brewed coffee. Bob’s Grandfather used a homemade contraption and cheesecloth to make his cold brew. Bob grew up drinking cold brewed coffee and never forgot that fabulous coffee taste.

As Bob and Todd established the business, they began researching the many benefits of cold brew coffee. They discovered that cold brewing not only produces smooth, great tasting coffee but is naturally low in acid and easy on the stomach. The task, create a cold brew coffee maker that’s easy to use, durable, portable and looks great.Todd fashioned what would become our first prototype made from a mason jar and beer koozie duct taped together and we were off to the races!

In 1982, I had four children under the age of five.  Lordy!  Like most first time moms, I was a strong advocate for all things natural: cloth diapers, glass bottles, nothing microwaved (which was, believe it or not, a relatively new phenomenon back then).  But by the time the fourth child came along (OK, maybe it was the second), I was simply looking for quick and easy.  So, cloth diapers were replaced with disposables, our first microwave appeared on the kitchen counter (for the sole purpose of heating Adrienne's bottles) and a myriad of other green no-no's slowly crept into our lives and our home.  Our carbon footprint was growing exponentially!

Fast forward 30 years...

An opportunity presented itself to bring an eco-friendly baby wipe kit to market that's good for baby, good for the planet and good for the wallet, and I jumped on it!
